What should students do to be safe when using email and the Internet?

Internet Safety – Charlesworth School Website

Students should keep these things in mind when using the internet and email:

  • Do not post personal information online (i.e. address, email address, phone numbers)
  • Think carefully before posting pictures of yourself or others. Once you put a picture online it is out for anyone to see or download.
  • Make sure to keep your social media on private so everyone cannot just find it.
  • Do not give out your passwords.
  • Make sure you use different passwords for different sites.
  • Do not friend or follow people you do not know.
  • Do not meet up with people you talk to online unless you ask your parents first.
  • Remeber that everything you read online is not true. Anyone can edit a website to insert there own information. Scholars sujest students use sites that end in ".edu" or ".org" when researching.
  • Think carefully about what you say before posting it. When applying for a job people can see what you post on social media and it might keep you from getting the job.
  • Respect other point of views, even if you do not agree with them. Not everyone has the same opinion as you. Diveristy makes us stronger!
  • Do not open emails that are not from people you know.
  • Do not click on anything inside an email because, it could be a scam or cause your email to get a virus.

Parents and Teachers, we suggest that you keep a close eye when allowing children to access the internet or email. There are many sites that seem kid friendly, but are designed to get children to click on them. There are ways you can program your computers, tablets, and smart phones to where they are kid locked and only allow for your children to get on certain sites that are kid friendly.
